What are the different room types?
You can rent a room in a 2, 3, 8 or 9 bedroom apartment. In the 2 or 3 bedroom apartment you share the kitchen and bathroom with the other tenant(s). Some of these rooms are provided with a balcony. In the 8 or 9 bedroom apartments you have your own bathroom in your room and you share the kitchen with the other tenants. These rooms don`t have a balcony.
Can I view a room before making a booking?
To view a room before making a booking please contact a staff member at the Reception during the office opening times.

How do I make a booking?
You can download or print off the application booklet from our homepage or we can send you the booking information by post or email.
All you have to do is fill out and sign the documents and send them to us via

If I book by myself how will you allocate me a room?
We look at the room type you have requested, your year of study, gender and any other preferences. Galileo Residenz will try to allocate you to a flat that is suitable to your situation and preferences, however it is not always possible for us to meet your requests.
Can I live with my friends?
When making your booking you can request to share with friends. We can`t guarantee that you can live together with friends, but we will try our very best.
Can two people share a room?
All of our rooms are for single occupancy only.
Is the room furnished?
Yes, the room is provided with:
- a bedside cabinet,
- a bed (120x190cm) with mattress,
- a wardrobe,
- a mirror,
- a desk,
- a desk chair,
- a bookshelf,
- a pin board and
- a coat hook.
What cooking equipment is provided in my apartment?
All flats are provided with
- cooker,
- hob,
- fridge,
- freezer,
- microwave,
- toaster and
- kettle provided.
We also supply an extensive kitchen pack which includes cutlery, crockery and pans for you to use.
Can I get bedding supplied?
Bedding is not supplied unless by prior arrangement.
Contact the Reception before you arrive for information and costs if you require this facility.
What if I am not happy with my allocated room or flatmate(s)?
Part of the University experience is meeting people from different backgrounds, interests and cultures. We hope that you will enjoy the diversity of University life; however should you be unhappy it is worth spending some time talking to your flatmates to try to come to some mutually agreeable solution.
It is usually not possible for a room move unless an empty room is available. It is important to remember that moving to University is a stressful time and that initial teething problems are usually resolved within the first few weeks.
Will I be able to change rooms after I have arrived?
In principle it is possible to move within the building of Galileo Residenz. Due to the administrative costs the tenant is required to pay a lump-sum fee of €50.
Can I decorate my room?
You are responsible for ensuring that you leave your room and flat in the same condition that is was given to you.
You will be asked to complete and return an inventory to record the condition of your room upon arrival.
How do I report maintenance?
Maintenance should be reported at the Reception during the office hours.
How do I report emergency maintenance overnight or at weekends?
If you have a maintenance problem (electricity, water, heating) that needs urgent assistance when the Reception is closed you can call our emergency telephone number 0174 99 53 417. The phone number is also provided within your welcome information. The Caretaker will respond to your problem and do whatever is possible to resolve the issue, but it may not always be possible to complete the repair out of office hours.
Who is responsible for cleaning my flat?
It is the resident’s own responsibility to clean their rooms and they share responsibility for the communal area of the flat.
The caretaker will conduct monthly inspections and you are expected to ensure that your flat is clean on these days.
Failure to meet the required cleanliness standards will result in external cleaning contractors being brought in, the cost of which will be passed onto the resident(s). At the end of the tenancy the bedroom and flat must be returned in a good, clean condition to avoid cleaning charges, again it is the responsibility of all residents to ensure the kitchen and lounge are clean.
Can I have guests to stay?
Occasional overnight guests are permitted provided your flatmates agree. All overnight guests must be signed in at Reception for safety. You must accompany your guests at all times whilst they are on site and you are responsible for their behavior.
Are there any guest rooms on site that I can book?
No, Galileo Residenz does not have guest rooms.
What are the Reception opening hours?
- The Reception is opened: Monday to Friday from 9a.m. to 5p.m.
- The Reception is closed: on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
Where is the Reception located?
The Reception is located in the middle of the building.

Will there be someone to collect my keys from?
You can collect your keys at the Reception (during the opening times).
Is there a telephone in my apartment?
No, the apartments are not provided with a telephone.
Is the room provided with an internet connection?
Yes, all rooms and the kitchens are provided with an internet connection.
How can I use the internet in my room?
On your move in day a staff member will provide you with the information how to set up the internet on your computer. To connect you will need an internet cable - if you don't have one, we can sell you one at Reception.
Is there a charge for the internet?
Internet access with 10Mbit/s download is free for students.
Who like it faster, can book a high-speed access with 100Mbit/s download for 10,00 €/month.
Is a TV provided?
TVs are provided in the kitchens of each flat. Each bedroom has a TV aerial socket.
Do I need a TV license?
Each flat is provided with a TV in the shared living area. Galileo Residenz is not responsible for providing the Television license. As the tenants you are required to purchase a license for this television. Please find more information on www.gez.de.
What are the prices for the rooms?
The monthly rent
- for a room without balcony is 455,00 Euro and
- for a room with balcony 465,00 Euro.
Electricity, Water, heating and the use of the internet (for students) is included.
Do I pay a deposit?
Yes, a security deposit of 700 Euro needs to be paid in cash at the time you pick up your key at the Reception.
Students living abroad have to transfer the deposit and the first month’s rent in advance.
Will I get the deposit returned to me?
Yes, you will receive your deposit on the day you move out after we have checked your room/apartment and everything is in a good condition.
What options are there for me to pay my rent?
The monthly rent can be paid through your German bank account via
- direct debit,
- bank transfer or
- EC-card
this is free of charge.
You can pay in cash, but there is an additional bank charge of 10 Euro.
I don’t have a SEPA bank account. How can I pay my rent?
The monthly rent can be paid by bank transfer - please check if there are additional charges from your bank's side.

When do I need to pay the monthly rent?
The monthly rent must be paid into our account within the first three working days of each month.
Students living abroad have to transfer the deposit and the first month’s rent in advance.
What, if I change my German bank account?
Please notify a member of Staff at the Reception immediately with any new details to ensure your rent is taken on the due date and to avoid any unnecessary charges.
When can I cancel my rental agreement?
You can cancel your rental agreement latest by the 3rd working day of April to move out by the 30th of September.
Can I cancel my contract and move out early?
Should you find someone who is willing to take up occupation of your room, Galileo Residenz will agree to release you from your contract upon receipt of their booking. Cancellations will only be accepted upon receipt of a completed cancellation form.
Can I cancel my contract before I move in?
If you cancel your contract before the contract begins you will be subject to our cancellation terms and charges.

Is there a charge, if I change my room after I have moved in?
Yes, there is an admin charge of 50 Euro, if you change rooms during your stay.
What do I need to bring with me on arrival?
On arrival you need to bring:
- the security deposit of 700 Euro in cash,
- a set of bedding,
- owels and
- an internet cable.
Can I move in at the weekend?
No, you can only move in during our office opening hours.
What happens on move in day?
You will be welcomed on arrival at the Reception by a member of Galileo Residenz staff. After this we will issue you with a welcome pack which contains all the information you need to live at Galileo Residenz and you will be shown to your room.
What do I need to do before I move out?
You are expected to ensure that your room and flat are returned at the end of your contract in a good condition.
You must make sure that all areas within the flat are cleaned thoroughly and that all rubbish and unwanted items are removed from the flat to avoid any charges being incurred.
Damage to the flat or missing items will be charged for. You must ensure that all outstanding invoices are settled prior to your departure.
A final room and bedroom check will be completed at the end of your contract, you should arrange an appointment for this with a staff member at the Reception.
May I stay in my room after a staff member has completed the final check in my room?
No, you can`t stay in your room after we have carried out the final check. We will lock your door afterwards and take the key off you.
Can I move out at the weekend?
No, you can only move out during the office opening hours.
Is there somewhere to park while unpacking?
Yes, you can go through the barrier with your car when you arrive (the barrier opens automatically). A staff member will show you where you can park your car.
IMPORTANT: You will need a chip to leave the car park. If you don`t have a chip you will not be able to leave the car park when the Reception is closed!
Can I park on site?
You can rent a parking space for 25 Euro per month. Please fill out the Rental agreement for a parking space and return to the Reception.
We will provide you with a transponder so you can leave the car park any time and as often you wish.
Can I rent a parking space for only a few days or one week?
Yes, you can also rent a parking space for a few days. We will charge you 1 Euro per day and provide you with chips to leave the parking space.
Please remember: You will not be able to leave the car park without a transponder or a chip when the Reception is closed!
Can my visitors park on site?
Yes, your visitors can park on site. We will charge 1 Euro per day and provide you with a chip to leave the car park.

Can I bring a pet?
No pets of any type are permitted at Galileo Residenz.
What if I have a complaint?
We hope that you never have any reason to be dissatisfied with the service we provide you. However if you have any issues that you would like to bring up with us please contact a member of staff at the Reception who will endeavor to resolve the problem for you.
Can I smoke at Galileo Residenz?
No, smoking is prohibited in all rooms and apartments.
Where can I store my bike?
Bike stores are available on site and can be accessed with your key. These are left at the owners' risk. No bikes may be stored within the flats
Where can I do my laundry?
A laundry is provided with washers and dryers on site. The cost for using the washing machine is 2,80 Euro and the dryer 2,30 Euro.
You need the "AppWash" app to use it. You can also register at www.appwash.com.
Where can I collect my post?
Pigeon holes containing your post are located within Reception. You can collect your post during office opening hours.
